About Our Board and Staff

Anthony Armstrong was born in Brunswick, Georgia, on March 16, 1961, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence and Lillian Armstrong. He attended Glynn County schools and graduated from Brunswick High School. His upbringing in Brunswick shaped him into the individual he is today, grounded in strong values, beliefs, and teachings. Armstrong developed a passion for people and a love for helping others from an early age, inspired by his parents' unwavering commitment to aiding those in need. Despite not being wealthy, his family permanently extended a helping hand to the less fortunate in their community, guided by their deep faith in God.

Armstrong's true calling was discovered in his work with children with special needs. His dedication to helping these children grow into productive individuals fueled his desire to continue serving them. As the President of True Guiding Lighthouse of Hope, Armstrong is committed to supporting at-risk and special needs children. His faith and trust in a higher power drive his dedication to this cause, a passion that has been with him for the past 30 years.

Armstrong's academic journey includes graduating from Brunswick High School in 1979, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from Hampton University (1979-1983), and furthering his education through Brunswick College, Armstrong State, Waycross Community College, and Bible Baptist Institute, where he graduated with an Associate of Theology on June 5, 2015. He was ordained and licensed as a minister on September 27, 2015.

Throughout his life, Armstrong has achieved numerous accolades:

• 1973-1974: State Championship Football MVP for Brunswick All Stars (12 & 13 years old), Punt-Pass-Kick District 1st place.
• 1979: Brunswick High School 2nd 1,000 yards rusher, MVP Rookie of the Year.
• 1979-1980: Hampton University Freshman of the Year, 2nd leading Rusher in CIAA, holds the record for the longest run from scrimmage (92 yards touchdown as a freshman), most touchdowns scored as a freshman (14).
• Performed in Tryouts with the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys.
• 1983: Jacksonville Bulls U.S.F.L.
• 2019: Employee of the Year for work with at-risk and special needs children.

Anthony Armstrong is happily married to Tammie Lynette Thomas Armstrong, and together, they share four children: Toby, Andrea, Tracie, and Candice, and seven grandchildren: J, Bubba, Jediah, Aalera, Jeremiah, Joshua, and Imani. He also has two sisters, Karen and Debra. Debra has preceded him in death.

Through his life experiences and unwavering faith, Anthony Armstrong strives for excellence as President of True Guiding Lighthouse of Hope, driven by a profound commitment to serving and uplifting at-risk and special needs children.
